Stabilised weighted linear prediction - a robust all-pole method for speech processing
نویسندگان
چکیده
Weighted linear prediction (WLP) is a method to compute allpole models of speech by applying temporal weighting of the residual energy. By using short-time energy (STE) as a weighting function, the algorithm over-weight those samples that fit the underlying speech production model well. The current work introduces a modified WLP method, stabilised weighted linear prediction (SWLP) leading always to stable all-pole models whose performance can be adjusted by changing the length (denoted by M ) of the STE window. With a large M value, the SWLP spectra become similar to conventional LP spectra. A small value of M results in SWLP filters similar to those computed by the minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR) method. The study compares the performances of SWLP, MVDR, and conventional LP in spectral modelling of speech sounds corrupted by Gaussian additive white noise. Results indicate that SWLP is the most robust method against noise especially with a small M value.

Linear prediction (LP) provides a robust, reliable and accurate method for estimating the parameters that characterize the linear time-varying system. It has become the predominant technique for estimating the basic speech parameters such as formants. Linear prediction exploits the redundancies of a speech signal by modelling the speech signal as an all-pole filter. The filter coefficients are ...

Temporally weighted linear predictive methods have recently been successfully used for robust feature extraction in speech and speaker recognition. This paper introduces their general formulation, where various efficient temporal weighting functions can be included in the optimization of the all-pole coefficients of a linear predictive model. Temporal weighting is imposed by multiplying element...

In this paper, we propose a new method of processing speech degraded by reverberation. The method is based on analysis of short (2 ms) segments of data to enhance the regions in the speech signal having high signal-to-reverberant component ratio (SRR). The short segment analysis shows that SRR is different in different segments of speech. The processing method involves identifying and manipulat...

Stabilized weighted linear prediction (SWLP) is a recently developed method to compute stable all-pole models of speech by applying temporal weighting of the residual energy. In this study, SWLP is used for spectrum estimation in the first stage of the MFCC computation. The resulting acoustic feature representation is tested in a speech recognition front-end in simulated noisy conditions. When ...
